Head of Youth Development appointed

Singapore Football Club (SFC) is pleased to announce that Syed Karim Bin Syed Hussin has been appointed as Head of Youth Development.

As part of Singapore Football Club’s continuedcommitment to youth development, Karim will work closely with academy Technical Director, Kike Pascual, to develop pathways and structure for the development of the club’s academy players. 

Karim joins from Singapore Premier League club, Lion City Sailors, where he was responsible for the club’s Youth team there. He had previously held the position of Home United’s Youth team coach, since 2015. Karim also has coaching experience from two other Singaporean professional clubs. At Warriors FC he oversaw the development of the club’s women’s team, and at Tanjong Pagar he was responsible for the “Young Jaguars”.

As a youth player Karim has represented Singapore at the Asian Youth Tournament, before captaining the FAS team between 2001-2002. He then embarked on a successful professional career, playing for S-League teams; Singapore Armed Forces, Gombak United, Woodlands Wellington and also Tanjong Pagar. Karim’s playing honours include both the Singapore Cup and S-League Championship, and he has also competed in both the AFC Champions League and AFC Cup.

Karim holds an AFC ‘A’ Coaching Certificate  and has also completed FIFA Grassroots Coaching, FIFA Fitness Coaching and FIFA Elite Youth Coaching courses.

In addition, to working with Singapore Football Club, Karim is also involved assisting with the Singapore U17 national team. 

SFC’s Director of Football Matt Hulen commented: “We are thrilled to have Karim joining us.  I am looking forward to working with both Karim and Kike, as we continue to develop our next generation of players. This is a fantastic addition to the club.”
