Former Warriors Captain and S-League stalwart joins SFC to drive club’s youth teams
Singapore Football Club (SFC) is delighted to announce that Zulfadli Bin Zainal Abidin will be joining the club as a Senior Coach.
As part of Singapore Football Club’s continued commitment to youth development, Zulfadli will work directly with SFC’s Academy Director, Karim Hussin, developing SFC’s Pathways & Opportunities programme for the club’s academy players.
Zulfadli brings with him significant coaching knowledge, and considerable playing experience. During a successful ten year professional playing career, Zulfadli represented Singapore at international level, and also played in the AFC Champions League. Domestically Zulfadli played for a number of Singapore’s top S-League clubs; including Young Lions, Tampines Rovers, Home United as well as Warriors, where he was Captain.
Zulfadli’s playing honors include being voted Singapore Armed Forces Football Club (SAFFC) young player of the year in 2009; the same year he also won his first S-league title. Zulfadli went on to lift the Singapore Cup in 2012, before securing another S-League title in 2014 – again with Warriors.
As a coach, Zulfadli was previously with Cosmo United Football Academy (CUFA) where he was responsible for a number of youth teams and also helped develop the academy’s girls teams’ programme. In addition to his time at CUFA, he also spent time at Singapore’s prestigious Saint Joseph International School (SJI), as one of their senior football coaches.
Whilst coaching with Singapore Football Club, Zulfadli also plays for the club’s adult men’s first team.
Karim Hussin commented: “We are thrilled to have Zulfadli joining us. I am looking forward to working with him, as we continue to develop our next generation of players at the club. This is a fantastic addition for Singapore Football Club.”
SFC’s Pathways & Opportunities programme ranges from helping six year old boys and girls, just starting out in the club’s grassroots programmes, to ensuring that SFC’s competitive players have pathways through to Singapore Football Club’s men and women’s teams – and ultimately beyond. All with a view to strengthen Singapore’s grassroots football.
“I am thrilled to be joining the club and can’t wait to get started. I am looking forward to helping our youngest players reach their full potential.” said Zulfadli.
Singapore Football Club is one for Singapore’s fastest growing sports clubs that includes three men’s teams, a women’s team and an academy that works alongside five partner schools as part of the club’s strong commitment to Singapore’s grassroots football. The club’s academy caters for girls and boys between the ages of six up to nineteen years old.
The club has three main focuses:
1). Providing Pathways: Empowering players to fulfil their personal objectives
2). Providing Opportunities: Enabling Singaporeans of any age, or ability, to have the opportunity to play football
3). Character Development: Developing positive character traits, so that their young members can thrive on and off the pitch
