Prolific Singaporean striker joins SFC to help drive club’s youth development plans

Singapore Football Club (SFC) have announced today that former Singapore national team striker, Fazrul Nawaz has joined the club, as their new Under 16 coach.

Fazrul brings with him significant coaching knowledge, and considerable playing experience. Having begun at Geylang United, he went on to have an illustrious S-League career playing for Young Lions, Gombak United, Lions XII, Warriors, Tampines Rovers as well as Hougang United. During a professional career that saw him amass over 140 club goals, Fazrul was also the highest scoring Singaporean player in the S-League on 4 separate occasions. This included an impressive return of 25 goals in 58 games for SAFFC. A stint for Lions XII followed, where he helped the club lift the Liga Super (Malaysian Super League) in 2013. His domestic form at Home United (10 goals in 24 games) also led to further time playing abroad with Sabah FC, in the Malaysian Premier League..

On the international stage Fazrul was part of Singapore’s 2007 SEA Games team that won bronze in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. With an impressive total of 87 senior caps for Singapore, Fazrul was also an integral member of both AFF Championship winning teams in 2007 and 2012.

“Not only is Fazrul a very experienced coach, but he also brings fantastic enthusiasm and energy – something every great coach must have” said SFC’s Head of Youth Development, Syed Karim. “Fazrul will be a great asset, both to the club and also the players that work with him.”

In his new role Fazrul will primarily oversee SFC’s U16 team working alongside SFC’s Head of Youth Development, Syed Karim, who is also responsible for SFC’s “Pathways & Opportunities” programme.

SFC’s Pathways & Opportunities programme ranges from helping four year old boys and girls, just starting out in the club’s grassroots programmes, to ensuring that SFC’s competitive players have pathways through to Singapore Football Club’s men’s first team, and ultimately beyond. All with a view to strengthen Singapore’s grassroots football.

I am very excited about the important season that we have ahead, and helping the players develop and grow so that they can reach their full potential.” said Fazrul

Singapore Football Club is one for Singapore’s fastest growing sports clubs that includes three men’s teams, two women’s teams and is driven by a strong commitment to Singapore’s grassroots football. Its academy caters for girls and boys between the ages of four up to nineteen years old.

The club has three main focuses:
