Singapore Football Club sign Khairul Amri

Singapore’s Mercurial #19 joins SFC’s growing number of Super Coaches

Singapore Football Club (SFC) is delighted to announce that Singaporean star striker Khairul Amri will be joining the club, as a Senior Coach.

As part of Singapore Football Club’s continued commitment, to developing Singapore’s next generation of football talent, Khairul Amri will work alongside SFC’s Academy Director, Karim Hussin, and former national team Capatin Shahril Ishak, in developing SFC’s Pathways & Opportunities programme for the club’s academy players.

A key member of Singapore’s golden generation, Khairul Amri won three AFF Championships. His first was in 2004. His late away goal in the 2007 final, against Thailand, helped secure Singapore’s third AFF Championship title, and his second. In 2012 he won his third AFF Championship for Singapore, scoring in both the semi-final and final. Khairul Amri was also part of Singapore’s Bronze winning SEA Games team in 2007 . In total, during an international career spanning 15 impressive years, he won 132 caps for Singapore and scored 32 international goals.

In 2015, at club level, he added to his trophy cabinet by winning the Malaysian FA Cup with Lions XII, scoring 10 goals in 25 appearances that same season. In a glittering career, that included 441 club appearances  and 241 goals, he signed off in style, in 2023, by scoring the Singapore Premier League goal of the season with a spectacular scissor kick for Tanjong Pagar.

Khairul Amri also has experience playing overseas in the Indonesia Super League for Persiba Balikpapan and the Malaysian Super League for Felda United. Domestically he was at his most prolific for Young Lions, who he also captained, amassing 69 goals over two separate stints, and also scored 86 career goals for Tampines Rovers, across three visits to the Stags.

In his new role Khairul Amri will oversee SFC’s U14 boys team programme, working alongside SFC’s Academy Director, Karim Hussin, who is also responsible for SFC’s “Pathways & Opportunities” programme.

Karim Hussin commented: “We are delighted to have Amri joining us.  He is the complete package: knowledgeable, experienced, passionate and a winner. He is eager to get started and wants to expand and share his knowledge. He will be a fantastic addition for Singapore Football Club.”

SFC’s Pathways & Opportunities programme ranges from helping six year old boys and girls, just starting out in the club’s grassroots programmes, to ensuring that SFC’s competitive players have pathways through to Singapore Football Club’s men and women’s teams – and ultimately beyond. All with a view to strengthen Singapore’s grassroots football.

I am thrilled to be joining the club and can’t wait to share my knowledge and experiences of the beautiful game.” said Singapore’s most prolific Number 19. Singapore Football Club is one for Singapore’s fastest growing sports clubs that includes three men’s teams, a women’s team and an academy that works alongside five partner schools as part of the club’s strong commitment to Singapore’s grassroots football. The club’s academy caters for girls and boys between the ages of six up to nineteen years old.
